There is just something special about photographing seniors who are standing on the edge of their next big adventure. I had the privilege of photographing an incredible Castle View High School senior during a beautiful evening at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, and it’s a session I’ll be smiling about for a long time. With the iconic Flatirons rising in the background, winding trails, open meadows, and Colorado’s famous golden hour putting on a show, Chautauqua Park was the perfect location to celebrate such an exciting season of life. It’s no wonder it’s one of my favorite places for timeless Castle View High School senior photos. Frankly, it is a fantastic location for any kind of photo session, including families.

As a Castle Rock senior photographer, I love taking seniors to locations that let them relax, explore, and simply enjoy the experience. Chautauqua Park has everything I love in a senior session location—epic mountain views, beautiful wild grasses, towering trees, and endless opportunities to create images that feel natural and authentic. One of my favorite parts of this session was celebrating what comes next. This senior is headed to Baylor University, so we had to incorporate a little Baylor pride! From the Baylor T-shirt to the cap, those personal touches made the gallery uniquely theirs. I love weaving meaningful details into every session because your senior photos should tell your story—not anyone else’s.

And then…the sunset absolutely showed off.

The light at Chautauqua Park is simply magical. During golden hour, the sun casts a warm glow across the foothills, creating dreamy, flattering light that brings every image to life. It’s the perfect combination of dramatic mountain scenery and soft, natural beauty without having to hike miles into the wilderness.

Colorado golden hour never disappoints, but Chautauqua Park has a way of making it feel even more magical. As the sun dipped behind the Flatirons, warm golden light spilled across the meadow, making Baylor’s green and gold colors absolutely pop. Those are the moments I live for—the kind that can’t be recreated in a studio and remind me why I love photographing seniors outdoors.

What I love most, though, is how much variety we can capture in one session. Within a short walk, we can photograph mountain views, open fields, forested paths, rocky trails, and intimate nature scenes that make your gallery feel diverse and uniquely yours.
