City Vibes or Mountain Views? Choosing the Best Denver Senior Photo Locations

One of the biggest decisions when planning your senior session is choosing the vibe you want for your photos. Do you picture yourself surrounded by glowing Colorado sunsets and open fields? Or are you drawn to the fun energy of downtown streets, colorful murals, and trendy urban backdrops?

The good news? When it comes to Denver senior photo locations, you really don’t have to sacrifice one for the other. Colorado gives us the best of both worlds.

As a Denver senior photographer, one of my favorite parts of the planning process is helping seniors pick locations that actually feel like them. Your senior photos should reflect your personality, your style, and this exciting season of life you’re in right now. Whether you’re outdoorsy, trendy, sporty, laid back, or a little bit of everything, there’s a perfect location for you.

If you’re trying to decide between an urban senior session or a more open space Colorado backdrop, here’s a little inspiration to help you choose.

Why Urban Denver Senior Photo Locations Are So Fun

Urban locations bring such a cool, modern vibe to senior photos. They can feel edgy, artistic, trendy, and full of personality.

One thing I love most about urban senior sessions is the variety. Within just a few blocks, we can find colorful murals, textured brick walls, glass buildings, rustic wood doors, alleyways, staircases, archways, and fun pops of color that completely change the look of your gallery.

Some of my favorite images have come from the most unexpected spots — like an old loading dock with weathered wood that created the perfect backdrop for a downtown-inspired senior session. Sometimes it’s a bold mural. Sometimes it’s a hidden alleyway. Sometimes it’s simply amazing light bouncing off the buildings.

Urban sessions also tend to photograph beautifully if you love fashion-forward outfits, sneakers, dresses, denim, or anything with a more modern feel.

Why Open Space Senior Sessions Are Always a Colorado Favorite

If wide open spaces, mountain views, and golden light make your heart happy, Colorado absolutely delivers.

Open space locations create a more natural, carefree feel for your senior photos. While they may not have the colorful textures and architecture of urban spots, they offer something equally beautiful — gorgeous landscapes and room to breathe.

One of the best things about open space senior sessions is the variety Colorado gives us. Depending on the location and season, we can photograph in golden fields, mountain overlooks, wildflowers, rivers, tall grass, or tree-lined trails — sometimes all within the same session.

These locations also tend to feel more relaxed and private, which is perfect if you’re a little nervous about being in front of the camera. Without crowds walking past, seniors usually loosen up quickly and end up having so much fun.

And honestly? Some of the most timeless senior photos happen during sunset in an open field with the mountains glowing in the background. Colorado just does that really well.

Can’t Decide? You Don’t Have To.

Honestly, some of my favorite senior sessions combine both urban and outdoor locations. You can absolutely start your session downtown with a trendy city feel and then head to an open space for sunset mountain views.

Because at the end of the day, your senior session should feel like you.

If both city vibes and mountain views represent different parts of your personality, then don’t choose between them. The best Denver senior photo locations are the ones that help tell your story.
